ADOLF
is from the Old High German and means noble wolf. It was used among the German tribes for persons of the nobility. Since there are no wolves in Hawaii the closest equivalent would 'ILIO LANI or simply LANI; 'ILIO (dog) and LANI (noble). The ancient Polynesians brought dogs with them on their original voyages to Hawaii. The dogs were sometimes household pets, but were more often raised to be cooked in the imu and eaten.
