GERALD, GERHARD, JERROLD

GERALD, GERHARD, JERROLD and the femine form GERALDINE are all frequently shortened to JERRY. The masculine is from the Teutonic and means spear-rule or brave warrior. The feminine form was invented by the Earl of Surry who in his love poems to Lady Elizabeth Fitzgerald called her 'my fair Geraldine.' In Hawaiian KOA means both brave and warrior. For the feminine 'ILIPUAKEA is a poetic term for a person with a fair complexion-'ILI (complexion) PUAKEA (the tint between white and pink as in the clouds as sunset). This Hawaiian poetic term seems a good choice for 'my fair GERALDINE'.
